Jean Stafford hits #1 on U.S. swing chart.
Australian DJ, Daryl Kirkup, subs for Mike
to present Jean Stafford with the award for the first foreign recording
artist to become number one on Swingin' West.
Jean Stafford achieved a unique milestone this month
when Steelin’ The 2 Step, the first single from her Let The
Dance Begin album, hit the #1 position on the Swingin’ West
Radio Network Chart.
It’s the chart’s first number one by a non-US
artist in its 25 year history,” said Mike Gross, 2004 Western
Swing Society Hall of Fame inductee and veteran producer of the twenty
five year weekly program. “Jean, the song and the entire musical
production are well deserving of this feat.”
“The track is a future Western Swing classic,”
he predicted. “The biggest response came from callers who asked
for the song to be played again.”
The regional syndicated station’s playlist reaches
an estimated 4 million listening audience and a very active internet
fan base on the World Wide Web.
Jean said “We are very excited about the single
reaching No. 1 in the USA. Western swing has its traditional roots
in country music. It’s an honour to be recognized in the company
of such peers, and great news just as the second single It’s
Like Living With A Stranger has just been released to radio through
NfS 99 in Australia.”
The new album Let The Dance Begin has been eagerly received
in Australia. Jean’s fans have welcomed her return to country
music and hearing more from the new album.
A national Australian tour with her new band out of
Nashville is set for February 2006.
