Invited by Australia’s leading country music historical board to appear at its annual Australian Country Music Foundation Roll of Renown Concert, national and international artist Jean Stafford will make a brief appearance at the Tamworth Town Hall in January.
The annual Roll of Renown Concert compered again by ABC ‘Saturday Night Country’ host John Nutting is one of the major highlights of the Tamworth Country Music Festival's first weekend, held on the Saturday afternoon January 19.
A welcome return to Tamworth and for audiences alike Jean appeared in 2007 at the West Australian CM Awards in February and the Steel Guitar Convention in Brisbane in July.
Her enthusiasm has gained momentum since receiving the ACMF invitation.
Some special touches are ensured for January’s concert. Jean will be appearing with her band Pure Country featuring some of her American band and the cream of Australian musicians from her Australian band the Jean’s Boys of the 90’s.
Since the release of her last album interest in Jean and this album co-produced with the late Jimmy Crawford in Nashville, steadily increased in the US and in Europe with the first single Steelin’ The 2 Step stealing hearts and ECMA no 1 hits in France, Spain, Poland, Netherlands and topping the Western Swing Charts and the Independent Western Swing Ratings in the US. It even opened the show at the Lincoln City in New York City! Back home in Australia radio presenters loved the western swing tribute to Bob Wills and played it reverently.
Her greatest success however was in the US in October last year when she won the coveted Western Swing Female Artist AWA Awards in Dallas Texas. Earlier this year the second single Don’t Bet Your Boots hit the charts at No 1 in Ireland and Denmark and in the Netherlands it debuted at no 1 in the Top 40 chart.
In June 2007 Jean was presented in Australia by her publishing company PEER MUSIC Sydney in recognition of her successes for the song STEELIN’ THE 2 STEP and her services to the Steel Guitar across the world.
In 1975 Jean Stafford was the first Australian born to win the Female Vocalist of the Year Golden Guitar and subsequent multi-award winning Golden Guitars in 1980 & 1981. Jean was crowned Australia’s Queen of Country Music in Sydney in 1989.
