Legendary steel guitar, touring and session musician to many of America’s most renown country artists and foremost to Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn and a lengthy twelve year stint with Vince Gill, John Hughey won Musician of the year last night at the ROPE Reunion of Performing Entertainers Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
International music websites reported that despite ill health reports of late, John was looking and feeling great as he walked to the stage to accept the award amid a hall full of standing, applauding peers and fans.
‘I am so proud for John. He’s a wonderful musician, a steel guitar icon and a good friend. I congratulate him on receiving this prestigious award!’ Jean Stafford said when she told about the win this morning.
John Hughey bestowed his unique sound playing steel on Jean’s award winning track from her latest CD Steelin’ the 2 Step. The track received extensive airplay in the USA and across Europe and became a favourite of western swing fans globally.
